Arts Development

We are committed to the county’s creative energy and maximising the role culture plays in the social, economic and communities of the area.

The County’s Arts Services are currently focussing on developing facilities and what they can offer and in strengthening our links with local organisations, the education sector and audiences.

The County’s arts facilities provide for exhibitions, performances, workshops and lectures and films. We work with libraries and museums that also provide for more historical and community led exhibitors and literary workshops and reading groups.

Outside of our venue activities we support ‘arts in the community’; in particular LLAIS, the county’s umbrella organisation for youth theatre, work with Arts Council of Wales in providing NIGHT OUT subsidising productions in community halls, encourage CARAMARTHENSHIRE ARTS FORUM and it’s sister bodies crafts from Carmarthenshire promoting local applied arts practice, and the emerging dance forum.

Arts development provides advice and small grants for cultural activity encouraging local events that otherwise could not happen.

Carmarthenshire is also home to five nationally funded arts organisations involved in developing the arts. These are the mid and west Wales offices of Arts Council Wales and of Audiences Wales, the production home of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, Arts Care and, managed by the County Council, Oriel Myrddin.

Other arts development providers include the county’s network of Mentr Iaith organisations, the Council’s youth services, and the County’s music services. The county’s two colleges provide courses and other arts activity both on their campuses and in the community.
