Ammanford & District Miners Heritage Centre

This was a large and exciting project to refurbish the Ammanford Miners Welfare Hall in order to create a Miners Heritage Centre, based on the history of the Mining Industry of the Amman Valley. The Centre displays a vast array of mining memorabilia including photographs, historical documentation, miners’ diaries, mining tools/clothing and other associated equipment. It raises awareness of the importance of the mining industry and acts as a valuable educational centre for school children, youth groups and other voluntary associations. The Heritage Centre has become a popular tourist attraction, enticing a wide range of visitors into the town and the surrounding area, and has become a place to learn, relax and enjoy the local community atmosphere.

Gwyl Y Cnape

The latest Gwyl Y Cnape festival took place during June 2004. The festival had a range of different events and workshops specifically chosen to encourage the attendance and participation of all sectors of the community, from school pupils to the older generations, and included performances from a wide range of artists of differing musical styles as well as a craft fayre.

Carmel Welfare Hall

Carmel Welfare Hall Association received a grant in order to extend the existing boundary wall of the Welfare Hall by 16 metres, and also to create a pathway alongside the existing extension to create a fire exit from the kitchen area. The provision of the wall has greatly enhanced the setting of the wall and made essential provision for parking.

An Audience with Brian Turner

Celebrity chef Brian Turner, of the popular television programme ‘Ready Steady Cook’, came to The Ammanford Miners Theatre to entertain the local community with a cooking demonstration that used local produce, a question and answer session, and book signing. Local food companies benefited greatly by having their produce profiled and used by a celebrity chef, with numerous opportunities for promotional photographs.
