Llangeler Heritage & Cultural Audit
A Heritage & Cultural Audit of the Llangeler parish was undertaken to investigate the historical elements of the community as well as to establish the tourism potential of the many drovers’ roads in the area. Copies of the publication are available from ‘Symud Ymlaen’, based at Drefach Felindre.
Symud Ymlaen – Networking and Newsletter
Symud Ymlaen was awarded £2265.20 to extend and improve their newsletter and to network within their community. The aim of the grant was to distribute the newsletter to additional areas in the parish of Llangeler. Also the grant allowed the group to add additional pages to the newsletter improving it for the community. As well as improving the newsletter Symud Ymlaen have provided information to the smaller undeveloped groups in the Teifi Valley Forum area, and also arranged shared training sessions / workshops in practical areas. Better communication channels have developed and strengthened local communities.
The Powerhouse, Pont Tyweli
The Powerhouse in Pont Tyweli has a significant local historic interest, and in February 1999 a new committee was agreed. Since then several meetings were held, their priority being to develop the powerhouse as a community venue. To assist with this, they were awarded £188.00 to investigate the structural integrity of the building, prior to redevelopment of the building for use as a centre for arts, crafts and general community activities. Since the completion of the initial survey, the committee have been working hard on creating a centre for the whole community
Cenarth Falls Feasibility Study
A study was carried out to find out how to keep the water flowing at Cenarth Falls. RSTP awarded £2,000 for a feasibility study to see how the falls could be restored to its natural form. The aim is to increase the number of days water flows over the rocks, to allow water to be drawn into the water mill, and promote a scheme that isn’t detrimental to the natural environment. From the study, it’s believed it’s possible to construct a scheme that will control the water at the falls allowing water to cascade over the rocks again.
Drefach Felindre Park Puw
Drefach Felindre Park Puw Committee received a grant to carry out improvements in the park with the aid of local youths who were eager to learn traditional, fast disappearing skills. The park has undergone extensive refurbishment over the last two years and the park committee were keen to add the finishing touches to these improvements through placing additional fencing, additional bins, appropriate signage and a notice board. Receiving the grant has enabled these finishing touches to be carried out.
Photogrammetric Survey of Newcastle Emlyn Castle
The Photogrammetric Survey provides detailed background research to help inform the Conservation Plan for Newcastle Emlyn Castle and grounds. The castle ruins and grounds need to be cared for if their condition is not to deteriorate. However, as it is as item of significant historical interest and a scheduled monument, it is vital that any future works to the existing ruins and surrounds are carried out in line with good conservation practices, planning and policy guidelines. All survey works were carried out to CADW specification.
Feasibility study for Neuadd yr Ysgol – Llanfihangel-ar-Arth
Neuadd yr Ysgol, Llanfihangel-ar-Arth were awarded £4700.00 for a feasibility study to discover the community needs, the potential users, means of generating revenue and refurbishment of Neuadd yr Ysgol. There was great enthusiasm within the local community in ensuring that Neuadd yr Ysgol becomes a centre of community education and community events and remains a focus in the centre of the village, which will help to ensure the future of the village following the closure of the school.
Menter Iaith Myrddin – Taith Iaith
Menter Iaith Myrddin was awarded £4706.25 to develop Welsh language arts / theatre projects within the Teifi Valley. The project pulled together a committee of volunteers from different sectors in the community to discuss their experiences of living in bilingual communities. Their experience was then adapted into a drama project that toured the Teifi Valley, showing the communities of the area how important protecting the Welsh language is.
Capel Iwan Y.F.C.
Securing RSTP grant funding enabled the group to help with improvement work at the village hall, which consisted of resurfacing the entrance, inclusion of a disabled ramp, painting, improvements to the public conveniences, sanding and varnishing of the floor, and re-surfacing the stage. They learned new skills through the grant and are now be able to help other organisations in the community to carry out their own skilled work, this enabling them to pass on skills and increasing community infrastructure.
Holy Trinity Church Community Hall
The project has renovated the building’s internal and external structures for the benefit of the community and visitors. The hall is in an extremely focal and central location within Newcastle Emlyn town, and is used by a wide variety of community and charitable associations. The project aims to develop a better economic, environmental and social infrastructure for the area. The Hall is one of the only buildings in the town that can comfortably cater for most of the community’s needs and requirements, and a large proportion of community events, activities, courses, concerts and demonstrations take place there.
Newcastle Emlyn Writers Festival 2004
Funding was required to expand on the successful previous years festival, especially targeted towards marketing, to increase the exposure of the event, and attract local companies to provide sponsorship for future events with the goal of making the event self sustainable and able to take place annually. The festival ran from the 26-28th of November and included a series of writing workshops based on a variety of themes, taken by a host of well known published authors, poetry readings, question and answer sessions, all with the aim of developing individual skills.
Newcastle Emlyn Chamber of Trade Promotional leaflet
Newcastle Emlyn Chamber of Trade was awarded funding to produce a promotional leaflet of the town of Newcastle Emlyn. The grant was used to design and print the leaflet. The leaflet is aimed at tourists coming into the area, and the aim is to distribute the leaflet to them before they visit the area. The leaflet will hopefully boost the tourism trade and economy of the town, and will benefit the whole community, as it will attract more people to the town of Newcastle Emlyn.
Youth Task Force
Symud Ymlaen were successful in receiving funding to run a Youth Task Force, comprising of 8 workshops where the youth of the area were able to attend and create using waste materials wherever feasible, a range of products for use in the areas of the parish of Llangeler. Nesting boxes, picnic tables, benches, waste bins, notice boards and plant holders were designed and created by the youth of the parish. This enabled the youth of the area to learn new skills and also bring them closer as a community.
Neuadd Emlyn Hall Feasibility Study
Neuadd Emlyn Hall was awarded £2350.00 to carry out a feasibility study for the refurbishment of the hall. One of the aims of the study was to identify the community need and potential usage for a refurbished hall. The study was vital for the re-development of the hall, and the community hall will in the future provide a general facility for the people of Newcastle Emlyn and surrounding areas to use for whatever purpose the individual interest groups require.
Drefach Felindre Coach House
Symud Ymlaen received funding to refurbish the Coach House for use as a Community Office for individuals acting on behalf of community groups. The Coach House facility consists of computers, internet access, learn direct point, information resources, desk and equipment, and there is a photocopier, scanner, laminator and also administrative support. Groups are able to use the facility to make posters, leaflets, and to undertake community activities in a friendly welcoming environment where support and advice is on hand.
Llanybydder Old School
Funding has enabled Llanybydder Old School Group to commission a Study to assess the development of the building for community use, provide a robust business plan to identify any expenditure required on the physical infrastructure of the building, and a sustainable long term funding plan to meet future maintenance and running costs. Consultation took place with groups and individuals to allow their input into the study and ensure that the facility will meet the needs of the local community.
Pencader & District Regeneration Group – Community Notice Boards
Pencader & District Regeneration Group was awarded £848.78 to provide three notice boards in the villages of Alltwalis, Llanfihangel-ar-Arth and New Inn. The purpose of this project was to provide sites where information and local activities can be displayed for the community at large. The notice boards are of benefit as notices are available at all times. They have also improved communication channels within the community, and enable the whole community to be involved in displaying local events, thus drawing the whole community together.
Pencader & District Regeneration Group – Interpretation Panel
Pencader & district regeneration group were awarded £2070.78 to create an interpretation panel aimed at tourists and locals. It was important for the board to be centrally located to explain some of the background of the village, to have maps of the local area, information on local walkways and pathways and any local historical legend. The interpretation panel now stands proudly at the centre of the village where it can be seen by all of the community.
