This project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. The grant aims to strengthen Carmarthenshire’s position as a year round premier tourist destination via specific product development and promotion.
Grant objectives
- The scheme is open to all micro-enterprises involved in the tourism industry across rural Carmarthenshire (see eligible areas table below) and has the following objectives;
- To improve the quality of the tourism product in rural Carmarthenshire by financially supporting the build/ improvement or upgrade of accommodation and tourism facilities.
- To encourage the “greening” of tourism operations to build a base of accredited green tourism businesses. (Linked to national environmental standard schemes)
- To assist, via implementation of product investment, in extending the season and promoting Carmarthenshire as a year round quality destination.
- To safeguard existing, and create new, employment opportunities within the rural tourism sector.
To encourage the promotion of a sense of place within the tourism community that heightens visitor experience.

Available funding
There are three grants available under this scheme:
- Meeting Changing Consumer Needs and Expectations
Capital grants of 80% available against total project costs awarded at levels of between £5k and £25k.
Aim: For micro enterprises to improve the quality and appeal of their tourism product to meet specific market gaps and demands.
- Supporting Greener Tourism Business Practices and Initiatives
Capital grants of 80% available against total project costs awarded at levels of between £5k & £10k.
Aim: To provide financial assistance to facilitate the “greening” of tourism operations.
- Distinctive Rural Hubs
Capital grants of between £25k - £75k will be awarded to build upon existing innovative aspects to tourism attractions/ facilities. The maximum grant available will be 50% of total eligible costs. Applicants must secure the remaining 50% as match funding.
Aim: The grant is available to support projects that are able to promote the distinctive nature of the rural hub in which they are based and their capacity as an economic driver within the wider rural visitor economy. Priority will be given to projects that fill gaps in existing provision.
