Town & Village Improvement Grants

The aim of Town and Village Improvement Grants is to provide a boost to the county’s economy through the encouragement of improvements to properties in town and villages across the county using small scale capital investment. A grant is offered to the owners of commercial buildings to undertake approved improvements to property frontages. Typical outputs for this type of scheme include the number of businesses assisted and the number of jobs safeguarded.
Previous grants given include:

Caban y Dderwen, Carmarthen
Nia Jones, the owner of a thriving café in Mansel Street, was given a Village Improvement Grant (VIG) to cover half the £4,690 cost of replacing the wooden shop front. All the glass and wood at the front of the shop was replaced and the exterior was repainted. As Caban y Dderwen is in a Conservation Area the shop front was redone in the traditional style.Caban y Dderwen
The grant was made under the Village Enhancement Project, which received funding of £940,049 through the Rural Development  Plan for Wales 2007 – 2013, which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

Hugh Evans Butchers, Llandeilo
The exterior of a Rhosmaen Street building in Llandeilo was returned to its former glory, to bring it more in keeping with neighboring commercial properties within the town. Builders had to adhere to strict regulations from the county council’s planning department as the property lies within a conservation area.
Hugh Evans Butchers received a Town Improvement Grant of £14,000 towards the total project cost of £32,658. The Town Improvement Grant which was administered by Carmarthenshire County Council was funded by Carmarthenshire County Council, the former Welsh Development Agency, European Objective 1 and Welsh Assembly Local Regeneration Fund.
