N.B.  Please label all children’s possessions clearly.

Pupils should be advised to paste inside the lids of their
suitcase a list of its contents.  They can then use this as a
check list when re-packing for their return  home and so
lessen the possibility of leaving property at the Centre.

N.B.    Every effort is made on the last day of the visit to
ensure that all ‘stray’ items are reclaimed before the group
leave. Please emphasise to your child the importance of
packing  ALL their belongings as we are unable to post back
    items left behind.

A visit to Pendine should not be treated as an isolated experience
but as an integral part of a pupil’s education. The primary aim of the
Centre is to provide first hand experience which will stimulate and
support the Authority’s schools and teaching staff in meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum.

The activities offered at the Centre provide:-

    (a)   Cross curricular approaches to both core and foundation National Curriculum  subjects.

    (b)   Opportunities for pupils to observe, record, analyse and interpret
     their own investigations.

    (c) An opportunity to develop personal and social skills through problem
    solving,
    Decision making and living.

    (d)   To utilize the environment for physical skills such as orienteering,
    surf skiing, coastal  walking.

    (e)   To give pupils an opportunity to make comparison and observation
which will lead to the development and concern for the environment.

During their stay at Pendine the pupils will be engaged in a variety
of activities including abseiling and climbing on the tower in the
Centre grounds, archery, surf skiing, orienteering, coastal walking
    and problem solving.

It must be emphasised that these activities will depend on weather
and time of the year and the topic which is being studied.

Field Studies – which may include plants and animals of the
seashore, woods, local coastal walks, location studies of Pendine
    or Laugharne.

Visit – pupils normally have a day out from the Centre where they
may visit one of the following places:  Skomer Island, Pembroke
    Castle, Preseli Hills, Museums, Aquariums,
    St. Davids and a
    selection of coastal walks.

Adventurous Activities – This subject is recognised on the National Curriculum and a visit to the Centre gives pupils an opportunity of excitement, fun and a genuine sense of achievement.
Safety is of paramount importance and these activities are taught only by staff who are experienced and well qualified.
