Secondary School Meals

Carmarthenshire Catering Service provides school meals to 13 Comprehensive schools in the county. The service has significantly changed over the previous year with the development of cashless catering in 7 schools which reduces queuing, ensures a quicker service and an improved dining experience.

The value of a free school meal in our comprehensive schools is £2.00 (as at April 2012). Also the prices have been held for a second year.

All of our meals are freshly prepared on a daily basis, using good quality ingredients.  It is our aim to ensure that all pupils are provided with a healthy, nutritious meal and that vegetarians and those on special diets are also catered for.

All secondary schools menus are measured against tough national standards produced by a program called Saffron which becomes legislative law in September 2013 and regular nutritional analysis is carried out through saffron on a regular basis.

A school meal accounts for one-third of a child’s daily nutritional intake and children can now benefit from some of the healthiest school lunches possible. School lunches provided today are the healthiest they have ever been and still include some tasty old favourites such as beef, lamb or pork roast dinner and chicken curry. Vegetarians and special diets are also catered for.

The catering department recently purchased a new outdoor food outlet which is situated in Coedcae School in Llanelli. The van is proving to be a great success. Mobile Meals

As well as providing a healthy school meal Carmarthenshire County Council also organise themed days across the whole year as well as competitions to encourage pupils to socialise and try new dishes that they might not have experienced before. Also Meal Deals are set at £2.00 which includes a main meal, pudding and occasionally a drink.

Do not hesitate if your child has a special dietary requirement as they are catered for by the department.
