Private Hire Licences

These vehicles may be saloon cars or people carrier style vehicles and minibuses. Private Hire vehicles can be of any colour and they do not have roof signage.

They can be distinguished by  a rectangular yellow licence plate to the rear bumper and a round yellow sticker to each front door.

An application must be made in person to the Customer Service Centre. You will need to provide the following items:

  • Completed Application Form (with all sections completed)
  • Vehicle Log Book (VS).
  • MOT Certificate (3yrs from date of 1st registration)
  • Licence Fee.
  • Insurance document for Private Hire use.

What is a Private Hire Operators Licence?

Any person, who plans to take pre-bookings for the carriage of passengers in Private Hire vehicles, must be licensed with the authority. Applications are generally issued within one day, unless there is a need to refer the application to the Councils Licensing Committee.

How can I make an Application?
