Carmarthenshire County Council aims to provide a safe and secure environment in which an individual’s needs are recognised and delivered in a caring, flexible and sensitive manner.
All care homes offer personal care for people who are no longer able to live at home, even with some support. Individuals will have different needs and the help which staff at the home give could include getting in and out of bed; help with bathing; dressing or using the toilet and; help with meals.
Care Homes may be registered to provide specific care needs for example dementia care or a physical disability. Some care homes also offer nursing care in additional to personal care. This means that regular care is provided at the care home by a registered nurse.
Some care homes are quite large with up to 60 residents or more whilst others have fewer than 20 people living in them. Many are purpose built and others are converted from large houses. The care homes may by run by the local authority, specialist companies or private individuals, but all will be registered with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CSSIW) and inspected at least twice a year. It is advisable to visit any care home before making a decision to move there. The staff at the home will expect this. You may wish to visit more then one care home and take a friend or relative with you. You may like to ask whether you can visit at a mealtime and dine with the residents. In some cases it may be possible to have a trial stay. To arrange a visit you can contact the care home directly, but if you have difficulty with this your care manager will be able to assist you.
