Mental health is just as important to us as physical health. Mental health problems are common and disabling and can affect any of us at any time of life and in different ways. Whilst many people make a full recovery, others may need support and encouragement for long periods of time.
We work closely with the health service and independent and voluntary organisations to provide a network of mental health services for people in Carmarthenshire. These services are designed to support people in their own homes and communities, although in certain circumstances care away from home in supported environments is necessary.
If you have mental health problems, or you are caring for someone who has, you can contact your own doctor or the Area Mental Health teams for further information:

Mental Capacity Act
The Mental Capacity Act affects people who are 16 and over who live in Wales and England – it affects us all. The Act sets out safeguards to empower and protect a person who is assessed as not having mental capacity. It tells people what to do to help someone make their own decision and what to do if someone cannot make their own decision.
People lacking capacity will include those with dementia, learning disability, mental health problems, brain damage, toxic confusional state and physical injury or illness. The mental incapacity may be permanent or temporary.
