Your questions answered 

As we have introduced a new policy we have a number of questions we are asked frequently. 

1. Why are you changing the way you allocate your homes?

The previous policy had a complicated points system which was confusing and didn’t give you realistic chances of having accommodation.

The new policy will ensure that homes are given to those in the highest need and will give you a realistic view of being allocated a property.

2. Who was involved in developing the new policy?

A wide range of consultation had taken place including households already registered on the housing register, tenants, local members, staff and partner agencies.

3. How does the new policy work?

Applications are assessed based on housing need.  You will be placed into 1 of 4 categories, Category A which gives the highest points to Category D which gives the lowest points.

When a property is available it will be allocated to the highest pointed applicant on the housing register.

4. Will I always be in the same category?

Yes, unless your circumstances change.  You must tell us if there has been a change in your circumstances so we can reassess you.  This could result in you being moved up or down a category or remain in the same category.

5. What if I disagree with the category I have been placed in?

You can appeal on the assessment of housing need, this must be in writing within 21 days of the date of the letter you receive.  You should give reasons why you believe that we should reassess your application.
