The Welsh Assembly Government's Nest scheme

Nest – Making Wales Cosy

Nest is the Welsh Assembly Government funded programme designed to help make your home warmer & lower the cost of your energy bills.

Nest offers a range of advice through expert partners, as well as a full home energy assessment and home improvements for the most energy inefficient homes – at no cost to the householder.

Nest offers lots of free, impartial help and advice about benefit entitlement, making sure you’re on the right fuel tariff, managing money, and schemes across Wales that offer home improvements at no cost or low cost to you.

How Nest works

Call Carmarthenshire Home Energy Service on 01554 742254 and speak to us about the scheme or call Nest directly on 0800 512 012 from a landline or 0300 456 2655 from a mobile.

Once you have contacted Nest -
A Nest advisor will run through a series of questions to see if you qualify for energy efficiency measures.
They will then give you advice on how to make your home more energy efficient.
If the information from the phone questionnaire indicates that you do qualify we’ll arrange for a Nest assessor to visit to do a full home energy assessment.
Whether you qualify for energy efficiency measures or not, Nest will give you advice on money management, making sure you’re on the right fuel tariff and making sure you’re maximising your income by claiming the right benefits.
If you don’t qualify then Nest can refer you onto other schemes for energy efficiency improvements at no or low cost to you.
If you do qualify, a Nest home energy assessment will recommend what is needed to improve energy efficiency of your home and cut your fuel bills.
If you’re happy with the recommendations, Nest will arrange a convenient time for a registered contractor to install the home improvements.

You may be eligible for energy efficiency improvements under the scheme if:

You own or privately rent your home and;
you live in a home that is not energy efficient (F or G rated)
and you or someone who lives with you receives a means tested benefit:
Child Tax Credit: money coming in is below £15,860 a year
Council Tax Benefit (but not just the reduction for a single person living alone)
Housing Benefit
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Income Support
Pension Credit
Working Tax Credit: money coming in is below £15,860 a year.

What help is available?

Nest can offer a full home energy assessment and a range of energy efficiency improvements at no cost to you.

They could include:

Even if your home has an energy rating above an F rating we’ll still give you advice on money management and income maximisation, you may also be able to get help with home improvements at no cost or low cost to you through other schemes.
