Trade Union Meeting notes - 21st September 2011 (.pdf)

It has been a huge piece of work to bring the project to fruition and allowing enough time to get it right has been crucial. This is not a cost cutting exercise and we have invested time and extra money to ensure that our pay and reward system is affordable and sustainable. It is also important to stress that the changes have been developed to ensure that our pay and reward system supports modern flexible working practices to enable us to meet the needs of the local community that we serve, both now and in the future.
A dedicated team has been working on this project for over two years. In addition, elected members, in the form of the Single Status Advisory Panel for Members, were involved in checking and agreeing the proposed changes.
As with any Job Evaluation scheme there will be inevitably gainers and losers.
However, the Authority will be supporting staff who will see a reduction in earnings by putting in place a range of discretionary measures to cushion the impact of the changes.
These proposals have the support and endorsement of the authority's Executive Board who have recently approved additional investment to the pay budget to enable Single Status and Job Evaluation to be implemented.

The key aims of the proposals are to:

• Ensure equal pay for jobs of equal value
• Modernise the Council’s pay structure
• Ensure that the Council’s pay and reward strategy supports flexible working and modern service delivery
• Harmonise other conditions of service, for example, overtime payments, travel allowances
